What you need to know before starting this course

So what do you need to know before starting this course?

Well, you'll need to have a good understanding of your operating system.

You'll also need to have a copy of AutoCAD installed on your computer. If you haven't done this already, you can download a 30 day free trial from Autodesk's website by following the link on this page (just click on the banner or you can click here).

There are lots of different versions of AutoCAD, and if you're just starting out I recommend you download AutoCAD LT, which is the light version of AutoCAD. It's still got all the tools and features you'll need to complete this course, but because it's focused on 2D drafting it doesn't have as much visualisation or presentation capabilities when it comes to 3D modelling.

Within this course I'm using the 2021 version of AutoCAD LT. Each year Autodesk releases a new version of the software, and sometimes there's small changes to the way things are presented or they add new features and tools. You might have a newer or older version of the software, but again all of the tools and features we'll be covering in this course will be the same.

Finally, for this course I'll be using a Windows version of AutoCAD. If you're using the Mac version of AutoCAD, it will look different and tools and commands aren't laid out in the same way. All the tools and commands we'll be covering should also be available in the Mac version but if you run into any trouble, just get in touch and I'll try and help you out.

So that's what you need to know before starting this course. You'll need a copy of Autocad installed on your computer, there are different versions of AutoCAD so don't be put off it things look a little different, and I'm here if you need help.
